Evolution day

Weekend Herald - Canvas - - HEAD START -

For someone who dropped out of medical school and married his cousin, old Chas Darwin made quite a stir after writing one of the most famous books no one has ever finished. And today’s the day his On The Origin Of Species came out. No, we didn’t come from storks, or magic, or aliens, we came from ... erm, we never finished either — it needs a car chase — but apparently the gist of it involves monkeys writing Shakespeare on old typewriters. Or something like that. Anyway, the job’s clearly not finished, there’s still lots of evolving to be done. Let’s help ... Beached whales. Hey, they’re testing their land legs. Stop pushing the buggers back. Lemmings. Much like whales, they’re trailing wings. Let them jump. Black Caps. A new life form with no sense of pride, selfesteem or hope is only a few losses away. Leave ’em be.
