Take after-5 dressing to the next level with a generous dose of Latina flair

So dramatic

Frills, passionate reds, sexy lace, dramatic details ... there’s something to be said about the power of Latin-inspired details, the kind of pieces that add a sense of occasion to after-work events or those impending social gatherings, come party season, when you need an outfit that moves and shakes with you.

Black and gold, in particular, make the perfect match, whether a simple black slip dress or a black blouse tucked into a mid-length skirt, accessorised with gold vintage costume jewellery, or precious gold Indian jewellery.

If the contrast is too much to handle, subtle navy and gold is equally effective. And if you’re already starting to consider what to wear for the summer races, why not take the look for a spin with a vivid red dress and a gold halo headband? It’s the perfect way of avoiding the oftencumbersome fascinator.

Fabric choice is key too — delicate lace, rich brocade and velvets might seem better associated with winter occasions, however, several designers have extended these into summer collections as a way of encouraging people to add a little more cha-cha to their step.
