Beat rush hour

Everyone has days when they can’t get out of bed. Here are a few tips to speed up the morning beauty regime and help beat the rush. ADVANCE PLANNING. If you’re constantly late running out the door, your haircut may be to blame. Invest in one appropriate for your hair texture. For example, forget a fringe if your hair is curly. Ask your stylist for long layers that are slightly curved in at the ends and then apply a finishing cream to the ends. John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Secret Weapon ($20) is a good one to try as it replaces the oils lost in daily styling and quickly smoothes flyaways. A heavy, blunt cut is always a good option if your hair is straight, as the weight will make it easier and faster to style. Also consider a fast-dry spray such KMS Thermashape ($34), which wicks away water, speeds up blow-waving time by as much as 50 per cent and acts as a heat protectant. STOCK UP ON MULTI-TASKERS. Products like Estee Lauder’s DayWear BB Creme SPF35 ($86) aren’t cheap but they’re genius at providing the multibenefits of foundation, antioxidants and serious sun protection all in one. Inika’s Certified Organic Lip & Cheek Cream ($44) is silky smooth, packed with moisturisers and gives summer lips and cheeks a subtle, rosy glow. Living Nature’s Skin Revive Exfoliant ($45) cleanses and exfoliates; Avon’s Arabian glow Multi-Stylo ($17) adds bronzed colour to lips, eyes and cheeks. SELF-TAN TIME-SAVER: Apply self-tan to your face before going to bed. As counter-intuitive as it seems to put on makeup before hitting the sack, you will congratulate yourself when you wake up looking fresh and healthy with a light golden tan. Clinique’s Self Sun Face Tinted Lotion ($45) is a sheer gel, tinted to prevent uneven application and reduce blotches, that develops into a natural-looking tan over two to three hours. And on the subject of before-bed timesaving options, consider applying antiperspirant before slipping between those sheets. Products like Rexona’s Clinical Protection Antiperspirant Deodorant ($15) are designed to sink in at night (when your sweat glands are less active) and will still provide coverage that lasts all of the next day. DRYING TIME. A good dry shampoo is the ultimate time-saver. But here’s a trick: spray in a good one like Batiste’s Heavenly Volume ($12), as soon as you roll out of bed and give it plenty of time (shower, eat breakfast, etc) to absorb before styling. It works much better. Tracey Strange
