Editor’s Letter; Things We Love; Megan Nicol Reed
Before the draft, the hoo-ha and the crack-up press conferences; before the US$100 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder; before the flash threads, the sponsorship deals, the countless pairs of kicks there was Steven Adams, the baby of a large family who lived in a small house in Rotorua. Before the lights and the hype and the nice house, there were plastic bread bags to protect decrepit shoes; there was a woman called Blossom; a coach called Kenny; and a couple of siblings who, were it not for their encouragement, their kid brother might still be playing Xbox on a couch in a small town in the central North Island. My Life, My Fight is a fascinating chronicle of the life and times of the superstar basketballer. But it is a shout out, too, to those who were so dedicated and determined on his behalf. High five. Slam dunk. Winners, all. Enjoy our cover story, an extract from the book. Have a great weekend.
