39 are the best first- day anal­y­sis of a New Zealand bowler in a test at home, beat­ing Si­mon Doull’s seven for 65 against In­dia, also at the Basin Re­serve on Box­ing Day, 1998.

● At one point, Wag­ner took six for 17 in the space of 36 balls; over­all he took his seven wick­ets in the space of

72 de­liv­er­ies.

● Wag­ner has taken 38 wick­ets in his last seven- and- a- half tests, at a world class 22.7 apiece.

● Of the seven bowlers with more wick­ets for New Zealand than Wag­ner, only Richard Hadlee, with
