Rain means longer lie-in for mothers

Weekend Herald - - News -

Mums have a good reason to stay in bed tomorrow — Mother’s Day is going to be dull and rainy.

The worst of a low causing havoc in Australia will mostly spare New Zealand but we’re still in for plenty of rain.

Met Service meteorologist April Clark said the story “wouldn’t be changing much” over the weekend. Temperatures would be mild in the north — Auckland can expect 20C — but cooler in the south. Christchurch drops to 9C today and 11C tomorrow.

Heavy rain is forecast across the upper North Island today, and in western areas tomorrow, especially in the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne ranges.

As for tomorrow — Mother’s Day — the forecast is for “a dull day for a lot of people in the North Island and rainy in the upper north, but not so bad for the South Island”.

On Monday, the rain looks like clearing over the North Island.
