Wild weather hits Aus­tralia

Au­tumn ar­rived with a loud bang in Aus­tralia’s south­east, bring­ing wild weather, flood­ing and snow. The spe­cial de­liv­ery straight from Antarc­tica caused chaos across parts of the coun­try and was set to con­tinue. Rain has bat­tered Tas­ma­nia and Vic­to­ria has copped snow­falls and freez­ing winds, caus­ing havoc for mo­torists. Gusts of 93km/h were recorded at St Kilda, south­east of Mel­bourne’s CBD. Sev­eral peo­ple had to be res­cued from flood­wa­ters in Tas­ma­nia, in­clud­ing a man lifted to safety by a he­li­copter from a cricket oval in New Nor­folk. Tem­per­a­tures in Alice Springs could sink to freez­ing overnight.
