Glen Eden Com­mu­nity Pa­trol is hold­ing a pub­lic meet­ing on Fe­bru­ary 20, af­ter a stranger ap­proached a 12-year-old child and asked her to get in his car out­side of Glen Eden In­ter­me­di­ate on Fe­bru­ary 3. The meet­ing will be held at the Glen Eden RSA at 6pm.


A safe place for late night in­nercity rev­ellers is re­turn­ing. The Safe Zone at lower Queen Street will be back for Fri­day and Satur­day nights for four weeks from Fe­bru­ary 24. ‘‘The Safe Zone is a safe place for peo­ple who may have con­sumed al­co­hol or drugs and may be in need of med­i­cal at­ten­tion, hy­dra­tion, and sup­port,’’ a coun­cil press re­lease said. Red Frogs NZ and St John will be at the zone from 10pm to 4am. The safe zone will also op­er­ate on March 1 and 2 – dur­ing stu­dent ori­en­ta­tion week.


New Zealand women will soon have ac­cess to the oral contraceptive pill in their lo­cal phar­macy fol­low­ing a pos­i­tive rec­om­men­da­tion by the Medicines Clas­si­fi­ca­tion Com­mit­tee to the Min­is­ter of Health. Trained phar­ma­cists will now be able to to dis­pense oral con­tra­cep­tives to women who have, for the past three years, had to have them pre­scribed by a med­i­cal prac­ti­tioner.
