Local boards seeking feedback

- MAHVASH ALI

The local boards have released their draft three-year plans and are now seeking feedback from the community.

The Whau, Henderson-Massey and Waitakere Ranges local boards in west Auckland released a draft of the key outcomes they want to achieve over the 2017 2020 period.

Residents and ratepayers will have opportunities over the next six weeks to provide the board members feedback on the plans. Community consultation closes on June 30.

The local board plans were developed every three years.

Common themes of the three west Auckland local board plans included improving transport options, environmental development and enhancing community spaces.

The Whau Local Board sought public feedback on seven outcomes. These initiatives were well-planned towns, facilities and housing, building great neighbourhoods with strong community connections, a maximum of 20 minutes travel time within the Whau area to walk, cycle and use public transport, enhanced natural environment, strengthening the local economy, celebrating creativity and promoting local heritage.

The Henderson-Massey Local Board wanted community input on six initiatives in the draft plan. These included developing a thriving local economy, building communities that know each other and working together on common interests, making community facilities vibrant and welcoming, making it easy to get around without a car and valuing and restoring natural spaces.

The Waitakere Ranges Local Board wanted the public’s input on six initiatives. These included people protecting the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area, protecting natural habitats, helping local communities feel good about where they live, people experiencing local arts and culture, making urban centres enjoyable places and providing easy access to community spaces.
