FROM THE DESK

Western Leader - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - –Tori, reporter

The changes in the kindy model are ruffling quite a few feathers.

There are a few passionate opinions out there about what the changes mean for families and their kids. Quite a few I’ve spoken to are against it, and they are very vocal about it.

It is only fair to have an opinion, especially when it comes to our kids. Factor that in with change that impacts both time and money and you can understand why some are stubbornly against it.

But there are families out there that have welcomed the changes. A working mother I spoke to for example said the extended hours worked really well for her, and at rates that were much cheaper than daycare fees, the new kindy model was a ‘godsend’.

Whatever happens, I hope the Auckland Kindergarten Association listens to everyone affected. At the end of the day, let’s hope the quality of education for our kids remains the number one priority.
