Avon­dale blaze reignites

A fire that badly dam­aged a house in Avon­dale reignited 12 hours later.

The Fire Ser­vice at­tended a blaze on the cor­ner of Ruahine St and Mi­randa St on June 26 at 11.15am, and then again at 11.20pm.

The first fire re­port­edly be­gan in a bed­room at the rear of the house and was put out by mid­day.

Fire Ser­vice north­ern com­mu­ni­ca­tions shift man­ager Me­gan Ruru said at the time that no one was hurt and ev­ery­one was ac­counted for.

About 12 hours later, the fire ser­vice was called to the same ad­dress for the sec­ond time that day.

A to­tal of five crews and 20 fire fight­ers bat­tled to get the blaze un­der con­trol.

A Fire Ser­vice spokesman said the blaze was well in­volved in flames by the time they got there.

By mid­night, he said the fire was un­der con­trol and crews were ’’damp­en­ing down hot spots.’’

No-one was hurt in ei­ther fire.
