PINK RIB­BON AP­PEAL

Breast Cancer Foun­da­tion NZ is ask­ing Ki­wis to sup­port the Pink Rib­bon Ap­peal on Oc­to­ber 13 and 14. Col­lec­tors will be out with their pink buck­ets through­out the coun­try rais­ing money for vi­tal re­search into new tar­geted treat­ments, med­i­cal equip­ment for hos­pi­tals, life-sav­ing aware­ness and ed­u­ca­tion pro­grammes. Money raised will also help sup­port women go­ing through breast cancer. Eight women ev­ery day are di­ag­nosed, and one in nine will be di­ag­nosed in their life­time.

HALF A MIL­LION MEM­BERS

So­cial me­dia site Neigh­bourly has reached 500,000 mem­bers as of 6.56pm on Oc­to­ber 4. Of those mem­bers, 22,436 are west Auck­lan­ders. The big­gest neigh­bour­hoods in the west are Hen­der­son with 2873 mem­bers, Avon­dale with 2288, Ti­ti­rangi with 2432 and Massey with 2041. The com­pany was started in 2014 and en­ables mem­bers to share ad­vice, plan events, find em­ploy­ment and lost pets, dis­cuss com­mu­nity is­sues and more.

MALL EX­TENDS HOURS

Northwest Shop­ping Cen­tre has ex­tended some of its hours start­ing Oc­to­ber 1. The mall will now be open from 9am-7pm on Fri­days and 9am-6pm on Sun­days.
