Westie launches watches

Western Leader - - IN BUSINESS - DANIELLE CLENT

An Auckland designer is kicking ‘‘Westie’’ stereotypes to the kerb by launching his own fashion collection.

‘‘When people hear ‘west’ they think of Cheryl from Outrageous Fortune,’’ West Auckland designer Samuel Levi said.

‘‘I want to bring a stylish piece that is also affordable to the every day New Zealander.’’

Levi, who was named New Zealand’s Fashion Influencer of the Year 2017, would launch his SL Collection on November 1.

The New Lynn resident has been working in the fashion industry for six years, including a stint in Sydney, Australia.

His interest in fashion started at 16 when he modelled for New Zealand Fashion Week.

Levi has since travelled the world for fashion events and has a big following on social media.

‘‘You can be who you want to be with fashion. You can wear what you want and do what you want,’’ Levi said. He said his new fashion collection started with watches as it was his favourite accessory.

The collection would start with a range of 10 unisex stainless steel and leather watches.

‘‘I’m going to leave it neutral,’’ he said.

‘‘Obviously there is a pink one but if a male wants to wear that, he can.

‘‘I’m going to see how that is taken by the public and then see where I want to go from there,’’ the 24-year-old said.

The SL collection would be online from November 1.
