Three West Auck­lan­ders are in the Univer­sity of Auck­land’s 40 un­der 40 list. It was 40 ex­cep­tional in­di­vid­u­als mak­ing a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion in their field of study and com­mu­nity. The three were lawyer Rez Gardi, ar­chi­tect Elis­apeta Heta from Ranui and artist Kate Newby from Bethells Beach.


The seven Pa­cific lan­guage weeks has come to an end with Toke­lauan Lan­guage Week, Va­iaho ote Gagana Tokelau, be­ing cel­e­brated this week. This year’s theme is ‘Tokelau ke mau ki te gagana a na¯ tupuna aua¯ he tofi mai te atua’ – Tokelau hold fast to the lan­guage of your an­ces­tors be­cause it is an in­her­i­tance from God. There have been two ‘‘ma­jor un­der-slips’’ on Ex­hi­bi­tion Drive in Ti­ti­rangi, Water­care’s Max­ine Clay­ton says. The pop­u­lar walk­ing track and road is owned by Water­care and got ‘‘se­vere rain-dam­age’’ over win­ter. Sec­tions might be closed tem­po­rar­ily ‘‘for short pe­ri­ods’’ for safety rea­sons while a re­tain­ing wall was built, she said. Work was ex­pected to be fin­ished by De­cem­ber.
