Three West Aucklanders are in the University of Auckland’s 40 under 40 list. It was 40 exceptional individuals making a significant contribution in their field of study and community. The three were lawyer Rez Gardi, architect Elisapeta Heta from Ranui and artist Kate Newby from Bethells Beach.
The seven Pacific language weeks has come to an end with Tokelauan Language Week, Vaiaho ote Gagana Tokelau, being celebrated this week. This year’s theme is ‘Tokelau ke mau ki te gagana a na¯ tupuna aua¯ he tofi mai te atua’ – Tokelau hold fast to the language of your ancestors because it is an inheritance from God. EXHIBITION DRIVE SLIPS
There have been two ‘‘major under-slips’’ on Exhibition Drive in Titirangi, Watercare’s Maxine Clayton says. The popular walking track and road is owned by Watercare and got ‘‘severe rain-damage’’ over winter. Sections might be closed temporarily ‘‘for short periods’’ for safety reasons while a retaining wall was built, she said. Work was expected to be finished by December.
