A man has died af­ter a shoot­ing in the early hours of Novem­ber 4. Po­lice said they were speak­ing to wit­nesses af­ter the man died of gun­shot wounds to the head, in Block­house Bay, about 1.10am. Po­lice were treat­ing the scene as ‘‘un­ex­plained’’, and said they were not look­ing for any­one in re­la­tion to the in­ci­dent.


A new walk­way has opened in Ti­ti­rangi. The Lit­tle Muddy Creek Walk­way was now com­plete from Gren­don Rd in Ti­ti­rangi to Wood­lands Park Rd, Waita¯kere Ranges Lo­cal Board mem­ber Neil Hen­der­son said. The walk­way cost the board $203,258 and was of­fi­cially opened on Novem­ber 2.


With sum­mer ap­proach­ing, the coun­cil is putting all in­for­ma­tion on wa­ter qual­ity, tide times, rips, wind di­rec­tion and wind speed on a new web­site. Safeswim will pro­vide real-time in­for­ma­tion of about 84 of Auck­land’s beaches this sum­mer. Beaches pa­trolled by Surf Life­sav­ing North­ern Re­gion will dis­play daily a free­stand­ing sign in­di­cat­ing wa­ter qual­ity and safety. Visit be­fore you swim.


Nom­i­na­tions are open for Colour Your Com­mu­nity – a cam­paign invit­ing mem­bers and com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions to win paint for an area in their com­mu­nity that needs a makeover. The ini­tia­tive of­fers six prizes of up $1000 worth of Re­sene paints, wood stains and ac­ces­sories. Current ap­pli­ca­tions in­clude plans for a ‘‘rain­bowfence’’ to brighten up a play­cen­tre and a town hall in need of a facelift. Five win­ning en­tries will be se­lected by a panel with a fur­ther hand­ful picked as fi­nal­ists for the Peo­ple’s Choice Award. Nom­i­na­tions close on Novem­ber 16.
