Enamel and glass in show

Whanganui Midweek - - NEWS -

Fine Arts Whanganui launches a new exhibition on Thursday, October 18.

Titled With Gusto, it features the enamel-glass art of Heina Petzold. Born in Berlin, Petzold has lived in New Zealand since 1980, and derives inspiration from NZ’s natural landscape — rock formations, river valleys, mountains, lakes.

Reflections on the nature of the changing landscape instigated a body of artistic works titled Faultline Series, which included the use of volcanic ash from Mt Ruapehu with his enamels.

Petzold has just been placed third at the prestigious New Zealand Mosaic Arts Awards at the Estuary Arts Gallery in Orewa.

His piece, The World Within, is a sculpture created from white Carrara marble, adorned with his vibrant kiln-fired enamel-glass on-lays.

And the work may well make it to his Whanganui exhibition which runs at the Fine Arts gallery, 17 Taupo Quay, until November 8.
