Quiet on SH1 deaths

Whangarei Report - - NEWS / OPINION -

I have followed the State Highway 1 cancellation of the four-lane project with considerable interest.

Following your previous article regarding safety measures (that were heralded by the Minister of Transport as a great boost for our main thoroughfare to the rest of NZ), I looked up who makes these less than logical decisions. Lo and behold, I find the minister is Phil Twyford, however his associates are Julie-ann Genter and our own self-titled champion, Shane Jones.

How quiet they have been on the deaths and serious “crashes” on the highway — where is Shane’s support for Northland when we need him? I am grateful for the efforts of the Advocate and Councillors, especially Mr Bain, all of whom haven’t given up in promoting what is obvious to us all — we need to be part of the 21st century and the highway more so.
