Tikipunga shines in Stafford Choat fi­nal

Tikipunga AFC had a day to cel­e­brate at the Stafford Choat fi­nals, with teams from their club tak­ing home two of the three tro­phies on offer.

The North­land Senior men’s Stafford Choat Cup fi­nals, named af­ter the promis­ing young foot­baller who died in 1974, were held at Toll Sta­dium on Satur­day.

In the first game of the day Tikipunga Ryco (Div 3) beat Pai­hia (Div 3) 2-0 in the Stafford Choat plate.

The sec­ond match of the day was the Stafford Choat Bowl fi­nal be­tween Kerik­eri Site­worx (Div 2) and Man­gawhai (Div 1).

De­spite be­ing from the Di­vi­sion be­low, Kerik­eri Site­worx tri­umphed 2-1.

In a score­line that mir­rored di­vi­sion club coun­ter­parts, Tikipunga Pet Es­sen­tials (Div 1) beat On­er­ahi (Prem) 2-0 in the day’s show­piece event, the Stafford Choat Cup fi­nal.

The women had their turn on Toll Sta­dium on Sun­day with Kamo JR Works play­ing Tikipunga Di­a­monds in the North­land Women’s Pre­mier Knock­out Plate com­pe­ti­tion.

Kamo won 4-2.

That was fol­lowed by Kerik­eri High School tak­ing on On­er­ahi in the North­land Women’s Pre­mier Knock­out Cup. On­er­ahi emerged as win­ners, tak­ing the game 2-1 af­ter ex­tra time.

The teams were locked at 1-all at full time, forc­ing the match into ex­tra time.

The win com­pleted the league and cup dou­ble for On­er­ahi.

North­ern Foot­ball Fed­er­a­tion’s Dave Al­abaster hands Kerik­eri Site­worx cap­tain Mark Roberts the Stafford Choat Bowl tro­phy.
