Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s note

-

Ihope you guys enjoy a lovely walk down memory lane with our Shortland Street souvenir magazine. We’ve had a blast reminiscing about our favourite Kiwi soap, and the stars and stories that have made it such a treasure ... although the fact that it’s the 25th anniversary is making me seriously feel my age.

Two of my favourite jobs in my 20s were working as the publicist of Shorty and then as the deputy of this very magazine, so trawling through our archives to pick the covers for the back page of our booklet sparked all sorts of fond memories of yesteryear.

Thanks to Shorty, I was lucky enough to go to London with Michael Galvin and Angela Dotchin, Fiji with Robyn Malcolm and our cover star Angela Bloomfield, and all around New Zealand with their castmates for publicity shoots and the chance for the stars to meet fans. It was such a buzz to be a part of something so loved.

It amazes me that Shortland Street is still the most popular show on the telly. And it’s local. You’ve got to love that. It deserves to be celebrated and I can’t wait to watch the special 25th episode on May 25. I hear it’s a doozy!

The 25th has prompted lots of talk in the office about what we were all doing at 25. The chit-chat has been going on for two hours now, so I’m going to have to tell everyone to zip it soon! But meanwhile, a few of the Woman’s Day team have shared their snaps (left) from when they were a quarter of a century old.

Speaking of anniversaries, one of the Woman’s Day team celebrated a whopping 20 years with us last week. Mirella Monteiro is our fabulous Creative Director who has the Midas touch when it comes to design, turning every page she touches to gold. Take a bow, Mirella!
