But her most heart-wrenching storyline saw Ellen and clinic CEO David Kearney’s baby Rose succumb to sudden infant death syndrome. The married couple soon split and had several affairs, but they reunited before departing Ferndale for an early retirement. A beloved character, Ellen’s exit was blamed for a drop in ratings.
