Hollywood hunks in crisis

Woman’s Day (NZ) - - What a Week! -

For almost two decades, big-screen superstars Johnny Depp, Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt were Hollywood’s hottest property. The heartthrobs regularly topped lists of showbiz’s sexiest men, scored leading roles and appeared to be winning in their personal lives too, with beautiful wives and gorgeous children.

But the past year has seen each of the former hunks unravel in spectacular fashion, with their midlife crises played out for all to see. They’ve lost their wives, families and, in some cases, their dignity – not to mention their famous good looks.

“It’s quite extraordinary how they’ve come undone,” a Hollywood insider says. “It’s almost like they were living in the bubble for too long and it’s all exploded spectacularly.”

While Johnny and Ben’s downfalls have been played out over a longer period of time, Brad’s crash has moved at breakneck speed.

Before his marriage to Oscar winner Angelina Jolie abruptly ended after a drunken meltdown on a private jet in September last year, no-one could have guessed just how far the Moneyball star would fall.

After retreating from public view for several months while he fought to see his six children – Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and eight-yearold twins Knox and Vivienne – Brad, 53, has emerged a shell of his former self. He’s lost a reported 15kg, and has publicly admitted to giving up alcohol and turning to therapy in a bid to save himself.

“I was boozing too much. It’s just become a problem,” he said in a revealing interview about rebuilding his life post-split. For now, the leading man is even swapping acting for art, saying, “I’m having a moment of getting to feel emotion at my fingertips. But to get that emotion to clay – I just haven’t cracked the surface. And I don’t know what’s coming.” As recently reported in

Woman’s Day, Brad is clinging on to the desperate hope he will win Angelina, 41, back. “But it’s unlikely,” says a pal. “He’s more alone than ever right now.”

Ben has also opened up about his battles since his marriage to Jennifer Garner ended. Taking to Facebook, the Argo actor, 44, confessed he’d been through a secret second stint at rehab, admitting, “I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction. Something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront.

“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it and to be a source of strength for

anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”

However, shocking new photos emerged last week showing the star looking bloated, unshaven and miserable on an outing with Jennifer and their children, Violet, 11, Seraphina, eight, and five-year-old Samuel. A source tells Woman’sDay that Ben is struggling to accept that he has lost the happy family he’d once taken for granted.

Despite several attempts at reconciliation over the past year, Jennifer finally filed divorce papers in April amid continual rumours of Ben’s boozing, gambling and cheating. “Ben always thought that things would get better and that he would be able to win Jen back,” reveals our source. “But he’s holding on to an impossible dream. She spends time with Ben for the sake of their kids, but she’s certainly not pining for what they once were. She’s over it.”

While Brad and Ben’s crises are dramatic, the most spectacular unravelling has come in the form of Johnny, whose gaunt and dishevelled appearance has sparked major health fears.

After ending his 14-year relationship with French singer and model Vanessa Paradis, 44 – the mother of his 18-year-old daughter Lily-Rose and son Jack, 16 – in 2012, he lurched into a union with bisexual actress Amber Heard. Just 15 months after their lavish wedding, the 31-year-old filed for divorce, claiming she was a victim of psychological and physical abuse.

And now Johnny, 53, is facing financial ruin amid a bitter legal dispute with his former managers after it emerged that he spends $40,000 a month on wine, and $100 million on 14 luxury homes and 45 vehicles. He even blew $4 million on a cannon to scatter the ashes of his pal, iconic author Hunter S. Thompson.

Despite claims he has a “spending disorder”, the chaotic

Pirates of the Caribbean star doesn’t appear to care, recently telling a magazine, “If I want to buy 15,000 cotton balls a day, it’s my thing.”

But the stress of the past year has clearly taken its toll on the actor, whose shocking weight loss has loved ones worried. “Johnny looks like walking death,” says an insider. “He’s lost 35 pounds [16kg] in a brief amount of time. His teeth are rotting, his cheeks are sunken, his hair is falling out and his body is emaciated. Friends are worried he has liver disease after years of abusing his body with booze and drugs.”

Hollywood insiders are wondering if he, Ben and Brad will ever regain their shine. “They’ve all hit rock bottom and who knows if they’ll manage to come back,” says our source. “But if anything, it should serve as a warning to other stars that they’re not invincible. If it can happen to Brad, it can happen to anyone.”

He’s a Daredevil! Jen had enough of Ben’s cheating and gambling.

Love triangle: Johnny left Vanessa for younger actress Amber (below). Brad’s addiction issues cost him his marriage to Angelina and his happy family.
