Since his reported fight with eldest son Maddox and bitter split with Angelina Jolie last September, Brad Pitt has done everything in his power to make amends. Newly sober, the War

Machine actor has spoken openly of how important it is to him to be a better father and the work he’s putting in to achieve that.

But in another cruel blow, Angelina, 42, left 53-year-old Brad completely heartbroke­n when she took their kids away from him once more – on the one day he’d love to be with them – Father’s Day.

Instead of celebratin­g in the

US with his brood – Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and eight-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox – Brad was left home alone while the children jetted to Ethiopia with the Maleficent star.

While several of the kids were spotted being dropped off at Brad’s Los Angeles home a day earlier, they returned to Angelina just a couple of hours later.

As his friends spent the following day posting pictures on social media and sharing special moments with their children, a devastated Brad was missing his children more than ever.

Publicly, it was thought divorce negotiatio­ns between

Brad and Angelina had taken a more positive turn in recent months, but close pals say that behind the scenes, things couldn’t be worse.

“After months of mediation and negotiatio­ns between their lawyers and a private judge, it looked as if they were finally about to agree on a settlement,” our insider tells us. “But it all crumbled when Angelina backed out of an agreement to give Brad more custody at the last minute, causing him to stall all together.”

They add, “This has been the route Brad was desperatel­y trying to avoid, but it seems they’ve reached the point of no return.”
