Make waves this season

-

When in doubt, curl! If you don’t have time to visit the salon for a ritzy up-do, creating waves at home is the perfect, stylish alternative when attending a summer soirée. Follow the steps below to master your favourite style.

Tousled waves

Take a curling tong and start curling the hair midway down, leaving the top half straight. Hold each piece for 10 seconds. Try (1) Silver Bullet City Chic Curling Iron, $79.

Alternate the direction of the curls as you work your way around your head, but make sure to curl the sections on either side of your face outwards.

Once finished, let the curls cool, then brush. Finish with a light mist of low-hold hairspray.

Vintage curls

Create a deep side part for the retro look.

Take a large-barrel tong and wind 5cm pieces around it towards your face, holding for 15 seconds. The idea is to create a very uniform look, so each piece needs to be the same size, and wrapped and held for exactly the same amount of time.

Once all the pieces around your head are done, spray with a firm-hold hairspray. Allow it to set for five minutes.

Once cooled, comb locks with a finetooth comb to smooth, then set with (2) another mist of hairspray, like $8.99. Helena Super Hold Hairspray,

Beachy waves

These curls are all about texture, so prep dry hair by spritzing with sea-salt spray.

Using a conical curling wand, wrap small, haphazard sections around the tong and hold for five minutes.

Shake the curls out with your fingers, then mist with a final spritz of salt spray. (3)
