FIVE FACTS FOR FANS
One of the horses Poppy Drayton (who plays Amberle) rides in the show carried Orlando Bloom, aka Legolas, in Sir Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films.
Before shooting season one, the actors spent a month learning to ride, and fight with swords and knives.
Austin’s horse trainer also taught Viggo Mortensen for Lord of the Rings. Austin says, “I spent hours with him out there learning to ride. It was one of my favourite things about working on the show.”
The series is based on the Shannara books by author Terry Brooks, who’s been very involved in the series as a script consultant.
To make the prosthetic elf ears, casts of the actor’s actual ears are made for the points to be moulded onto. Attaching them can take up to an hour.
