Reach out for help

Woman’s Day (NZ) - - Get Interactive -

I was shocked and saddened when I heard about the sudden passing of our much loved news presenter Greg Boyed. ( WD, September 3). Depression is a silent killer. A suicidal person may not ask for help, but that doesn’t mean that help isn’t wanted. Suicide prevention starts with recognising the warning signs and taking them seriously. Talking openly can save a life. Listen, understand and support. If you believe a friend or family member is suicidal, you can point out their options, show that you care and lots of others care too, and get a doctor or psychologist involved. Talk and listen. Even saying things like, “You are not alone in this,” might change his/her mind. May Greg’s story bring awareness to those who are in the same boat.
