Actress and singer Ashlee SimpsonRoss and her husband Evan Ross are letting fans inside their world with their intimate new reality series. Ashlee & Evan follows the young couple as they balance their careers with parenting their daughter Jagger, three, plus Ashlee’s son Bronx, nine, from her marriage to Pete Wentz. As the younger sister of Jessica Simpson, she’s no stranger to the world of reality TV, while Evan has experience in the limelight as the son of famed singer Diana Ross. We caught up with the couple on the phone from their home in Los Angeles.

Why did you decide to make a reality show?

Evan: We started working on music together and we wanted to document

it, so I got a friend to shoot the process. Watching it back, we realised it wasn’t enough to explain the inspiration behind our music and it was a little boring. Somehow it ended up becoming a docu-series. It’s really nice in the world right now to be able to show something that’s positive and full of love. We weren’t trying to do something that was negative and artificial.

What was it like mixing business with pleasure?

Ashlee: I’ve enjoyed working with Evan so much. He has his own thing and I have mine, but coming together to do this has been one of the most special experiences. It’s so fun going to the studio together.

Evan: A lot of time in this industry, you get pulled apart because of work. That happened to us in the beginning of our relationship and we’re trying to find a way to do something together.

Ashlee, after taking time out to be a mum, were you nervous about being back in the spotlight?

Ashlee: I definitely have that fear that we’re really putting ourselves out there, but at the same time, I have the mentality that you only have one life and this is a fun moment that I’m excited to share.

You’ re working on an album together. Ashlee, how have you found making music again?

Ashlee: It really has been so nice. I’ve always been making music, but I’ve not put it out publicly in so long, so this is definitely an exciting time in life and it just feels good.

After all that hard work, it sounds like you need a family holiday in New Zealand...

Ashlee: Definitely! Evan: I actually had one of my birthdays in New Zealand when I was young and my mum was performing. I loved it there. I must have been around 13. We spent months out there. We’ve definitely got to go one day, Ashlee!

Talk a-pout cute! The couple pose up a storm with kids Bronx (left) and Jagger.

The couple’s gorgeous wedding in 2014 was officiated by Evan’s mother, Diana. Below left: Ashlee with her sister Jessica.
