As unlucky-in-love Jennifer Lawrence lurched from one high-profile breakup to another, she began to fear she would never find The One – but that all changed when she stopped dating celebrity A-listers. A source close to the Hunger
Games star tells Woman’s Day that Jennifer has been “on cloud nine” since her engagement to New York art gallery director Cooke Maroney and is already planning her big day, which is likely to include close friends Emma Stone, Amy Schumer, Taylor Swift and Adele.
“Jen’s promised she won’t make them be bridesmaids as she can’t stand the idea of forcing her friends to wear a dress they hate – but Adele is under strict instructions to sing!”
The 28-year-old actress, who has been dating Cooke, 34, for just eight months, confirmed their engagement last week after she was spotted with her beau at an upscale New York restaurant flashing a giant rock on her finger.
The news took fans by surprise, but our insider dishes that Cooke actually popped the question at home on New Year’s Eve.
“Jen told Cooke on their first date that she’d never been a fan of New Year’s Eve and had never even had a midnight kiss,” says the source. “So he made it his mission to ensure she had the most memorable night of her life. Cooke picked the diamond himself and had the ring made by Jen’s favourite jewellery designer, Ana Khouri. Jen was in tears when she saw it.”
The couple kept their engagement on the down-low for as long as possible, which is how they’ve conducted their romance from the start. Since being introduced by a mutual friend in May last year,
they’ve been photographed together just a handful of times, including on a romantic trip to Europe in August.
“Jen would love to get married in Rome, where they both said their ‘I love you’s,” spills our source. “She’s a sucker for romance and has already joked about having a full operatic serenade as she walks down the aisle before partying the night away with expensive wine at an Italian vineyard.”
The RedSparrow star has been in touch with Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director of Dior, who’s offered to design her dress. Our source adds, “She wants to wear something elegant and simple for the ceremony but will have an extravagant party dress for the festivities later.”
Jennifer has had a string of Hollywood exes, including X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult, 29, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 41, and, most recently, BlackSwan director Darren Aronofsky, 50.
According to our source, the Oscar winner’s parents, Karen and Gary, were taken by surprise when Cooke asked for their daughter’s hand in marriage over the Christmas holidays at the family home in Kentucky.
“They were worried about things moving too fast, but they’ve never seen her happier or more content and selfassured. They know Jen can’t wait to become Mrs Maroney and have the fairytale ending she often wondered if she’d ever have.”
Once the couple exchange their “I do”s, friends say it won’t be long before Mother! star Jennifer starts a family.
“I can’t wait to be married,” she said in 2015. “I feel like if I find that one person who I want to spend the rest of my life with, who I want to be the father of my children, that I’d absolutely not f*** it up.”
