FROM THE Publisher
Here comes winter and maybe it’s time to escape to sunnier climes. But where? Well, our Travel section has a few intriguing suggestions. How about Israel, for instance? You might be tempted after reading about Gemma Price’s mouthwatering encounters in this “culinary melting pot”. Or Dubai, another hot spot: Patrick Smith explores a more traditional side of the futuristic desert city in his story on page 144. The Greek Islands, of course, are gorgeous at this time of year, especially seen from a five-star mega-yacht, as Karen Halabi finds in her “Dream Odyssey”. And speaking of the sea, if you’re considering a cruise, our “Consummate Cruising” feature on page 153 is a must-read. We’ve done the research on cruise lines, itineraries, ships and onboard service and come up with the ultimate top 10 selection for 2016. If we’re talking of winter hot spots, Greenland is unlikely to be in the conversation, but it has an astonishing landscape and World’s Todd Pitock fell for its icy beauty. I’m sure you will too. Closer to home and guaranteed to warm the spirits, at least, is Huka Lodge’s annual programme of intimate weekends and signature events, which we preview on page 53. As usual, we open the magazine with a fabulous showcase of jewellery, timepieces, décor and design.
Beautiful automobiles, too, including – a highlight for me – the world’s most valuable car: the Mercedes-benz 300 SLR driven to victory by Stirling Moss in 1955. Meanwhile, if extreme golf is your thing, you’ll find the world’s toughest (and craziest) par-3 on page 88. Or if you’d rather relax over a cocktail at Raffles’ Long Bar, where the Singapore Sling was created 100 years ago, we have story and pictures on page 118. Here’s to an exceptional read!
