RAFFLES SINGAPORE PAYS TRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS COCKTAILS, BORN HERE 100 YEARS AGO.
Bartender Ngiam Tong Boon created the first Singapore Sling in 1915 at the Long Bar in Raffles Singapore. It was an instant hit and soon gained international fame. A century later, it’s still enjoyed around the world – and nowhere more so than in the hotel where it was conceived. “The Singapore Sling has become synonymous with Raffles Singapore,” said Simon Hirst, the hotel’s general manager. “In recognition of its 100th birthday, we want to highlight its sweet success with special events to encourage everyone to discover, rediscover and enjoy the Singapore Sling.” To celebrate this milestone in mixology Raffles has numerous activities planned throughout 2015, from Sling-inspired desserts to a Singapore Sling Masterclass by Long Bar bartenders. The Singapore Sling 100th Anniversary Suite Package, meanwhile, immerses guests in the complete Singapore Sling experience.
