It may be a lit­tle pre­ma­ture to say sum­mer is just around the cor­ner, but let’s stay pos­i­tive and imag­ine sunny sum­mer days and warm evenings with bar­be­cues and al­fresco lunches on the pa­tio. It’s cer­tainly mine, though I’ve yet to sail on the fab­u­lous Sea Cloud II, which Kendall Hill joined in Bil­bao for a cruise to Lis­bon. It’s now on my bucket list. Like­wise, river cruis­ing – es­pe­cially the Vik­ing itin­er­ary we fea­ture on page 114, me­an­der­ing slowly through Bordeaux and tast­ing great food and wine along the way. Food and drink are es­sen­tial to the good life and we do both of them proud with sto­ries on the great co­gnac house of Martell, Cloudy Bay’s 30th vintage and one very spe­cial beer cre­ated by the world’s most awarded chef, Fer­ran Adrià. Our “chef du jour”, Glen Cooper, mean­while, has re­turned to New Zealand with tales from grand ho­tels in Sin­ga­pore and St Peters­burg.
