THE GREAT OUTDOORS

DEDON HAS BEEN CREATING OPEN-AIR LIVING ROOMS FOR ALMOST 25 YEARS – INSPIRED BY THE CHARM OF LUSH, ROLLING LANDSCAPES, FOAM-FRINGED SEAS AND BLUE BLUE SKIES. DEDON CREATOR AND PARTNER HERVÉ LAMPERT TELLS THEIR STORY.

The story of DEDON begins in Munich in 1990, when [footballer] Bobby Dekeyser is recovering from a blow in the face during a soccer game with his Bayern Munich team. He decides to leave professional sports to pursue his life’s dream, to be an entrepreneur and to work with family and friends. I joined Bobby in the early beginnings when DEDON was housed in a farm shack near Hamburg, Germany. Back then we were just a few guys doing everything, from unloading containers to visiting customers and preparing invoices. In late spring of 2000, in a modest garage on Cebu Island in the Philippines, I settled in Cebu more or less permanently and with my new team we established our own factory. Just a month after, we loaded the first-ever container filled with DEDON furniture made entirely in-house. It was the beginning of a new era. Fifteen years later we produce the highest quality outdoor furniture in the world and employ 1,200 employees worldwide, with a large headquarters located in the north German town of Lueneburg and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Cebu, Philippines. To provide a platform for the world’s most talented designers to do their best work, to delight and inspire our customers with products of unparalleled quality and innovation. We have a proud attitude of value and respect pervading our company culture. Achieving harmony between nature and our work is our philosophy, which depends on many things. The way we structure our jobs – with passion, energy and excellence, challenging ourselves to always be our best. Also, DEDON’S non-hierarchical approach, part of our culture here since the early days, is designed to encourage that approach as well. Each and every one of us has his or her own responsibilities, yet each and every one of us is free to handle them as he or she sees best. I think our appeal lies in the fact that we always have been about more than just furniture, as we look at it as a way of bringing people together. We want to amaze and inspire our customers with unique and innovative designs and ideas that stretch further than just producing a chair or a sofa. It’s about delighting our customers with ultra-superior products, services and experiences. Wowing our customers, opening their eyes, awakening their curiosity, surprising them with things they never would have thought possible.
