ROYAL DAVUI ISLAND RESORT

World - - CONTENTS -

Romance is frequently in the air at Royal Davui, an adults-only property on a small island at Beqa Lagoon, 10km south of Viti Levu. It’s a smart boutique resort offering the kind of individual service and privacy not always possible at larger resorts. There are 16 stylish vales (“homes” in Fijian), each with its own heated plunge pool, spa bath, separate lounge, sun deck and wet bar, plus views of the surrounding reefs and neighbouring islands. Vales range from Island Plunge Pool to the superb Royal Davui Suites East and West (take you pick: sunrise or sunset vistas). Vales have every mod con, including Jacuzzi, personal bar and private deck. Guests who are feeling sociable might join others for sunset cocktails beneath the giant tree that gives its name to the Banyan Bar and Restaurant. Dinner is taken either in the restaurant, on a secluded dining deck or in the privacy of one’s vale. Food is described as “an irresistible fusion of Pacific rim cuisines”. Meals are included in the tariff. Beqa Lagoon is renowned for its colourful underwater life, which is safeguarded by a marine reserve stretching for more than 2km around the island. Snorkelling gear is provided, along with Hobie Cats, sea kayaks and paddleboards. Dive or learn to dive on wrecks and soft corals and swim through caves and vivid marine life, all within 30 minutes of the resort. Land activities include reef tours and cooking classes, village visits, beach games and picnics on a deserted sandbar. At the Davui Spa, meanwhile, guests can choose from a full range of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments designed by Pure Fiji. Royal Davui is also available on an exclusive-use basis, perhaps as a spectacular wedding venue – with honeymoon to follow.
