Living-room week marked a crisis for Team Orange, who earned their lowest score yet and found themselves with 80 percent of their budget blown midway through the competition. The judges didn’t like the way they’d divided up their space using a sofa and bookshelf, but the opportunity to make good arrived straight away with ‘do-over week’. Despite a massive workload which included making a start on their stairwell and two days off site making over the I Have a Dream charitable trust’s HQ in Whangarei, Stace and Yanita pushed themselves to breaking point to deliver a winning room. A different couch, a cosy reading corner, a sleek study area and a more open arrangement of furniture won over the judges, who said the refreshed space “worked a lot better” and was “a lot more warm and welcoming”.
