If you’re reading this right now, my guess is you’re just as obsessed with homes, interiors and decorating as we are here at Your Home and Garden. Like our page 34 homeowner (and cover star) Olivia Fife, I too can remember every single duvet cover I’ve ever had. I would much rather spend money on renovations, bedding, cushions and kitchenware than fancy cars, designer clothes or handbags. We spend so much time in our homes. They are our safe haven from the outside world and where we spend time with those nearest and dearest – the place we go to relax and recharge. It makes perfect sense that we would want to make them as lovely as possible.
This month, we’re all about renovating: the planning, costs, logistics, furnishing, decorating and all the gnarly bits in between. My favourite feature is the kitchen reno on page 86. These clever homeowners bought a house with a new kitchen which was completely functional. However, it had a very loud, bright red splashback that didn’t suit their personal tatse. Rather than letting it put them off the house, they simply redid the splashback with white subway tiles and voilà: $800 later they had a brand-new kitchen. Genius!

renovation – it’s a chance to stamp your personal style on the space, and there are some beautiful options available. Here are a
