First quarter eventful for tennis, says secretary

Daily Trust - - SPORT -

Gloria Ekwepu-Chinwuko, Secretary, Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), yesterday described the first quarter of this year as a successful period for the federation.

Ekwepu-Chinwuko said in an interview in Lagos that the success could be attributed to the support the federation enjoyed from its various sponsors.

The secretary said that the qualifiers for the 2014 Africa Junior Championships (AJC) were also a success.

“Well, this quarter has been eventful; we had our AJC qualifiers in Abuja, where our junior players made us proud, which turned out to be yet another success.

“We just had the Central Bank of the Nigeria (CBN) junior championships and hope to see the senior tournament sometime in the month of May.

“This year started on a good note and we intend to sustain this and even improve on the scope of the sport and we intend to keep it that way,” Ekwepu-Chinwuko said.

She said that the federation would not rest on its oars in its bid to attract more sponsors for its activities.

“We still need more sponsors to organise more competitions and it is also important that we encourage these children in tennis,” Ekwepu-Chinwuko added. ( NAN)
