Po­lice nab 40 with arms

The po­lice in Sokoto have ar­rested 40 sus­pected per­sons with dan­ger­ous weapons at var­i­ous lo­ca­tions within Sokoto me­trop­o­lis. It would be re­called that the state po­lice com­mand re­cently set up a spe­cial squad to deal with mis­cre­ants.

Ad­dress­ing jour­nal­ists in Sokoto yes­ter­day, the Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice, Al­haji Shuaibu Gambo, said 23 of the 40 sus­pects have been charged to court while 17 are un­der fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion. He said the ar­rests were made se­quel to the es­tab­lish­ment of the spe­cial squad to curb thug­gery and other crimes be­ing com­mit­ted un­der the guise of be­ing party sup­port­ers.

“I am sound­ing a note of warn­ing to mis­cre­ants that their time is up, they should not al­low them­selves to be used by some el­e­ments be­cause any­body caught in this process will be dealt with in ac­cor­dance with the law”, the com­mis­sioner said.
