Corpses found at Kaduna-Katsina border
Some corpses have been found near villages on the border between Kaduna and Katsina States at the outskirts of Marabar Maigora and Tabanni villages close to the Birnin Gwari forest.
The thick forest which stretches into Katsina, Zamfara and neighbouring countries is said to be a hideout for rustlers and armed robbers. Helicopters were also said to have been sighted by villagers landing and taking off in the forest, delivering arms to the thieves. Troops were recently deployed to the areas after the killing of dozens of villagers in Katsina by gunmen.
Salisu Haruna who lives in Birnin Gwari town said thieves living in the forest areas recently attacked people in Marabar Maigora where several people were killed and the corpses were left in open spaces. “The thieves converged at a place called Kwalakwangi before they moved to Maigora to carry out reprisal over the killing of an old man and a woman. The thieves assembled in the presence of everyone and made their mission public”, he said.
Another man, Malan Rabi’u said corpses were seen in Maigora but the number could not be established. He said about three were found in Tabanni, adding that thieves living in the forest were suspected to be behind the killings.
