Kwara disburses agric loans

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Abdullateef Aliyu, Ilorin

The Kwara State government yesterday disbursed N215 million as loans to 172 farmers who are expected to serve as change agents in their various communities.

Each of the farmers got over N1.2m and they are expected to deploy their capacity in recruiting more youths into agriculture. Ten were selected from each of the 16 local governments to benefit from the loan scheme.

Disbursing cheques to the beneficiaries in Ilorin, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed emphasised that the programme was part of the commitment to create agroallied jobs and wealth through value chain management.

He stressed that government was committed to the establishment of an agribusiness culture in driving the state’s economy.

“Today, we take a step closer to that dream of agro-driven growth with the launch of the OffTaker Demand Driven scheme to extend agribusiness to other parts of the state by empowering a new generation of commercial farmers to ensure that our people are food secure, establish agribusiness as the pivot of our economy and regenerate agro-allied industrial development”, he said.
