President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday described the civil service as an “iconic national institution” which drives the country’s nationbuilding process.

Speaking at the 60th anniversary of the civil service in Abuja, Jonathan also applauded the vision of the country’s founding fathers for building a “foundational institution” which has made nation-building possible.

Jonathan, who was represented by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, also urged the commission to ensure elimination of waste in governance.

He also implored the civil service to play a leading role in the implementation of his administration’s transformation agenda.

“I expect the civil service to play a leading role in the implementation of our transformation agenda,” he said.
