A civil society group, Urbanization of Nigeria Association, has hailed the Sokoto State government over what it called upgrading of the state metropolis with solar powered traffic lights, road names signage and CCTV surveillance.

In a statement, the group’s coordinator, Mr. Karim Abdullahi, noted that Sokoto now wears a new look and commended the contractors that handled the project.

“We are indeed satisfied that Sokoto State government has taken constructive steps to modernize the metropolis. In addition, tax payers can see the good things their money has brought them, we therefore commend the governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko for these giant strides,” he said.

The coordinator further called on the state government to extend the installation of traffic light to other areas of Sokoto, adding that as the population increases, there will be more pressure on the traffic in the metropolis and environs.
