Teacher in court over rape of 9-year old girl
The Bauchi State Ministry of Justice has sued a primary school teacher, Mr James Dantayi, over the rape of a nine-year-old girl.
The case of rape between the state and Mr James Dantayi was filed before the Bauchi State High Court, 7, presided over by Justice Aliyu Baba Usman.
Prosecution counsel, Barrister Rukayyatu IKewar, told the court that the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of the girl in his office, during which she sustained injuries. Ikewar said the case is contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code. The accused, James Dantayi, denied the charge.
When the case was mentioned yesterday, counsel to the accused, Barrister Obadia J Buchi observed that the name of the second witness was not submitted to the court and sought for an adjournment to enable them put their house in order.
The judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman, granted the application and adjourned the case to April 4.
