Teacher in court over rape of 9-year old girl

The Bauchi State Min­istry of Jus­tice has sued a pri­mary school teacher, Mr James Dan­tayi, over the rape of a nine-year-old girl.

The case of rape be­tween the state and Mr James Dan­tayi was filed be­fore the Bauchi State High Court, 7, presided over by Jus­tice Aliyu Baba Us­man.

Prose­cu­tion coun­sel, Bar­ris­ter Rukayy­atu IKe­war, told the court that the ac­cused force­fully had car­nal knowl­edge of the girl in his of­fice, dur­ing which she sus­tained in­juries. Ike­war said the case is con­trary to Sec­tion 283 of the Pe­nal Code. The ac­cused, James Dan­tayi, de­nied the charge.

When the case was men­tioned yes­ter­day, coun­sel to the ac­cused, Bar­ris­ter Oba­dia J Buchi ob­served that the name of the sec­ond wit­ness was not sub­mit­ted to the court and sought for an ad­journ­ment to en­able them put their house in or­der.

The judge, Jus­tice Aliyu Baba Us­man, granted the ap­pli­ca­tion and ad­journed the case to April 4.
