Flood relief c’ttee begins award of contracts
The Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation will commence the award of contracts for the provision of disaster relief infrastructure in more than 24 States of the Federation from the second week of April.
Chairman of the committee and industrialist, Alhaji Aliko Dangote disclosed this at the end of a meeting of the committee in Abuja on Friday.
Dangote said the committee had overcome the initial setbacks occasioned by delays in fulfillment of pledges made by organisations and individuals during the fund raising for flood disaster relief held in October last year and has progressed considerably in achieving its mandate.
He said the committee now has enough funds to begin disaster relief projects which would benefit over 24 States.
Dangote said such infrastructure would accommodate displaced persons in the event of any disaster in the future. These facilities, he said, would have adequate water and power supply to sustain the relief efforts.
