The federal government yesterday arraigned three police officers and five other persons before a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged terrorism.

Corporal Jimmy Oba’ a and Constables Michael Manu and Iliya Mark who are accused of being members of the Boko Haram sect were alleged to have on March 7, 2012 attacked the Ashaka Police Station located in Bajoga LGA of Gombe State with dangerous weapons and different types of ammunitions.

According to the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Police Station, Abubakar Sadika Superintendent of Police, and Corporals Imamu Ijinyawa, Yakubu Azi and Idi Harima were shot and killed in the incident.

The three count charge brought yesterday by prosecution counsel Lawrence Alabi also joins Abeimel Ibrahim, Isah Kano, Yambali Umaru, Danga Wilfred and Sadeeq Ali Amitiga as co-accused.

When the charges were read, the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

However an oral application for their bail by defence counsel Nanpon Wuyep was overruled by Justice Ademola Adeniyi insisting it must be written.

Wuyep said he did not file a bail application for all the accused persons because he was not sure the police would comply with an order of the court on December 16, 2013 to the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar to produce the Police officers who had been put through an orderly room trial and transferred to the Anti-Robbery Squad in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Justice Adeniyi has fixed the case for hearing on May 26 and 27.
