Ji­gawa to spend N836m on scholarships

Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of the Ji­gawa State Schol­ar­ship Board, Al­haji Bab­nadi Abubakar, said yes­ter­day that his agency has ear­marked N836 mil­lion for scholarships to stu­dents study­ing in the coun­try and abroad.

Al­haji Ba­bandi, in a chat with news­men, said N436 mil­lion would be used for the spon­sor­ship of over­seas stu­dents while N400 mil­lion was set aside for the pay­ment of bur­sary al­lowances for stu­dents study­ing in the coun­try.

He said 20,979 in­di­genes of the state, who are in var­i­ous ter­tiary in­sti­tu­tions in the coun­try would ben­e­fit from the 2014 bur­sary, while ar­range­ments are on to screen more stu­dents for in­clu­sion in the pro­gramme.

The ex­ec­u­tive sec­re­tary also told news­men that ben­e­fi­cia­ries of the for­eign schol­ar­ship were in var­i­ous coun­tries abroad study­ing Medicine, Phar­macy, En­gi­neer­ing, Is­lamic stud­ies and Agri­cul­tural en­gi­neer­ing among oth­ers.
