INSIDE POLITICS Kaduna APC members protest consensus decision

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Misbahu Bashir, Kaduna

Some aspirants and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State yesterday protested what they called lack of consultation before choosing the party’s consensus candidates in the forthcoming party congresses.

Leaders of the party had resolved at the end of a ‘consultation meeting’ in preparation for the ward, local government and state congresses taking place between April 5 and 23, 2014 in Kaduna that they would support the “emergence of consensus candidates wherever possible.”

But an aspirant for the position of the state party chairman, Abdullahi Garba Abbas, yesterday said the decision of the party leaders to favor the emergence of unopposed candidates at the congresses was not unanimous because “neither the party members nor aspirants were consulted.”

He said members of the party would decide on whether or not to support the decision. “I am indifferent over the decision and I will abide by the position of party members,” he said.

Abbas who declared his intention to contest at the congresses said good leadership entails managing the party in such “a way that it will ensure justice and fair play among the members.”
