The Minister of State for Power Mohammed Wakil has solicited the support of the European Union (EU) to develop ways of using energy sources to drive poverty alleviation.

A statement by the ministry’s Deputy Director, Press, Timothy Oyedeji, said Wakil who received the EU delegation, Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters, said there is a link between high application of renewable energy and poverty alleviation.

He called on the EU to assist Nigeria in the areas of accessing development grants, capacity and building both internal and external exposures of its technicians and engineers.

He further tasked the EU to provide framework for smooth work as proposed by the various Private Public Partnerships (PPP) projects that are ongoing in Nigeria.

On pipeline vandalism, he sought the delegation’s cooperation in deployment of ICT and materials to Nigeria in the fight vandals who have marred government’s effort in providing electricity.
