...Rector wants dispute resolved

Daily Trust - - EDUCATION - From Ahmed Mohammed, Bauchi

Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Dr. Shu’aibu Muhammad Musa, has called on the federal government and the leadership of the striking polytechnic staff union to resolve the crises bedeviling the polytechnic sector in the country.

The call was made at a valedictory meeting in honor of the out-going Deputy Rector of the institution, Dr. Japhet Dauda Konni.

The rector noted that the strike had brought to a standstill all academic activities in the polytechnics, leaving thousands of students idle at home, a situation which, he said, has not only affected the programmes of affected institutions but also created other serious social challenges to the general public.

The rector noted that resolving the crisis would go a long way in enhancing the growth and development of Technical and Vocational Education, an important component of the current transformation agenda of the federal government.

He further appealed to traditional leaders, politicians and other stakeholders to intervene with a view to resolving the lingering issues and ending the strike.
