Demolition of illegal structures begins along Airport road
The Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the demolition of illegal structures built by nonindigenes in settlements along the Airport road.
Director of the department, Mr. Yahaya Yusuf, told City News said the demolition exercise started from the Abuja City Gate through Kuchigoro to Lugbe and other settlements along the express way.
Along the Airport road are settlements which include Rugan Fulani, Aleita, Lugbe, Chika, Kuchigoro and Pyakassa. Others are Piwoyi, Gosa 1 & 2, Ido Sarki and Bassan Jiwa.
Yusuf said his department had earlier met with the chiefs of the affected settlements, who were intimated of the demolition exercise.
He warned non-indigenes to refrain from buying land from local chiefs, adding that only developments by nonindigenes will be affected but including those resulting from connivance with indigenes which have not been confirmed by the department.
The director also warned owners of illegal structures along the area to remove them before the demolition team arrives, adding that such owners would be surcharged for the removal in line with Section 63 of the Urban and Regional Act.
He also said that the demolition and removal of illegal structures across all districts of the FCT is a continuous exercise.
