De­mo­li­tion of il­le­gal struc­tures be­gins along Air­port road

The De­vel­op­ment Con­trol Depart­ment of the Federal Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory Ad­min­is­tra­tion (FCTA) has com­menced the de­mo­li­tion of il­le­gal struc­tures built by non­indi­genes in set­tle­ments along the Air­port road.

Di­rec­tor of the depart­ment, Mr. Ya­haya Yusuf, told City News said the de­mo­li­tion ex­er­cise started from the Abuja City Gate through Kuchig­oro to Lugbe and other set­tle­ments along the ex­press way.

Along the Air­port road are set­tle­ments which in­clude Ru­gan Fu­lani, Aleita, Lugbe, Chika, Kuchig­oro and Pyakassa. Oth­ers are Pi­woyi, Gosa 1 & 2, Ido Sarki and Bas­san Jiwa.

Yusuf said his depart­ment had ear­lier met with the chiefs of the af­fected set­tle­ments, who were in­ti­mated of the de­mo­li­tion ex­er­cise.

He warned non-in­di­genes to re­frain from buy­ing land from lo­cal chiefs, adding that only de­vel­op­ments by non­indi­genes will be af­fected but in­clud­ing those re­sult­ing from con­nivance with in­di­genes which have not been con­firmed by the depart­ment.

The di­rec­tor also warned own­ers of il­le­gal struc­tures along the area to re­move them be­fore the de­mo­li­tion team ar­rives, adding that such own­ers would be sur­charged for the re­moval in line with Sec­tion 63 of the Ur­ban and Re­gional Act.

He also said that the de­mo­li­tion and re­moval of il­le­gal struc­tures across all districts of the FCT is a con­tin­u­ous ex­er­cise.
