3 killed in youths clashes in Niger
Three young men were reported killed in a violence that erupted last week between Gbagyi and Hausa youths in Garam village, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Chairman of the council Jibrin M. Kallamu confirmed the incident on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen in Minna. He said the crisis began following a misunderstanding on the use of part of a road.
He said a Gbagyi young man, who was riding a motorcycle, was alleged to have been intimidated by a group of some Hausa youths who blocked the part of the main road.
This irked the Gbagyi youth who mobilised his fellow kinsmen for an attack.
Kallamu said all effort to resolve the dispute proved futile as the situation went out hand, leading to a Hausa youth to stab the Gbagyi youth and that led to his death at the hospital on March 24.
When the news of the death filtered in the village, Gbagyi youths attacked the Hausa youths, leading to the death of two.
“We have met with security agents, traditional rulers and other community leaders in a bid to stop spread of the crisis in the area,” he said.
