Igbo leaders in PDP are there for selfish interests - S/East APC

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Tony Adibe, Enugu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) South-East Volunteer Network, yesterday lashed out at Igbo leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying they are in the party for their selfish interests and that of their children rather than the collective interest of Ndigbo.

The Network, made up of the APC youths in the Southeast geo-political zone, also faulted the Federal Government on the manner it has so far handled the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment.

Addressing a press briefing in Enugu yesterday, the convener of the Network, Anene Chikezie, said it was wrong and unpatriotic of some Igbo leaders to have advised the Igbo not to contemplate the presidency in 2015 until President Goodluck Jonathan decides to contest or not.

Specifically, the Network condemned the statement credited to the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural association, Ohaneze Ndigbo to the effect that “Igbo citizens should shed the ambition of contesting the 2015 presidential election for the interest of peace and unity.”

The Network regretted that “no viable federal government project in Igbo land despite the massive rigging in favour of the PDP during the last presidential election in the zone.”

Chikezie recalled that even the painted Onitsha In-Land Port Complex that was rejected, abandoned by the then President Shehu Shagari-led National Party of Nigeria (NPN) government had remained moribund ever since.

“After commissioning the project, no single ship berthed there and this is pure deceit of the Igbo in connivance with Igbo leadership. The second Niger Bridge being commissioned every election by the ruling PDP government without budgetary allocation to deceive Ndigbo is another kind of deceit; hence Ndigbo are being used and dumped by the PDP since 1999,” Chikezie said.

Chikezie also spoke on the activities of the APC and how it intended to clinch victory in the zone during the next election in 2015. He said: “We are going to embark on one-on-one campaign to convince all the Igbo people as to why they have join the APC and key into its programmes and vision for the people of the zone and the entire country.”
